Scope — Exterior Walls
Governs design, construction, and installation of exterior wall coverings.
Definitions — Exterior Walls
Directs to Chapter 2 for definitions of key exterior wall terms including EIFS, MCM, veneer types, water-resistive barrier, and exterior wall envelope.
Weather Protection
Exterior walls must provide weather-resistant envelope with flashing (1405.4), water-resistive barrier (1404.2), and drainage path for water that enters the assembly.
Thickness of Weather Coverings
Minimum weather covering thickness per Table 1404.2 based on covering type and building height. Specific coverings in 1404.5-1404.12 may have different requirements.
Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding must conform to ASTM D3679, certified by approved quality control agency. Installed per manufacturer instructions and this chapter.
Metal Siding
Metal siding must comply with Table 1404.9 standards and manufacturer installation instructions.
Masonry Veneer
Masonry veneer must comply with Chapter 14, TMS 402/602, and Section 2109. Anchored veneer per 1405.3.1/1405.3.2; adhered veneer per 1405.10.
