Code documents.
How citations work, what's tracked, how amendments are shown, and how to export.
How citations work
Every code reference in a SkyCanvass document is verbatim from the adopted edition for the property. Source links resolve to the official adopted version (state code library, ICC public-access, or municipal adoption record).
Editions tracked
IRC, IBC, IECC, IPC, IFC, plus the state-amended versions (FBC, CBC, NCSBC, MSBC, etc.) and county / municipal amendments. New edition releases are folded into the corpus within a week of public release.
Effective dates
Each adopted edition has an effective date. SkyCanvass tracks it. Permit pulled in 2019 references IRC 2018 (or the state version of it); permit pulled in 2025 references IRC 2024. The packet picks the right edition for the work date.
Amendments shown inline
Where a state or local jurisdiction has amended a section, the amendment is shown immediately after the IRC base text — both the strikeout and the inserted version. A reviewer sees what was added and why.
Verbatim integrity
Every citation passes a verbatim-integrity validator before the PDF generates. If text in the packet does not match the source-of-record, the PDF gate blocks rendering. There is no way to ship a packet with paraphrased citations.
Exporting and sharing
Code packets export as PDF, with every citation's source link embedded as a hyperlink. Additional export formats and shareable read-only links are on the roadmap.
If a citation looks wrong
Citations pass a verbatim-integrity check before the PDF generates, but if you spot a mismatch between a packet and the official adopted version, report it via the in-app feedback button on the document page. Include the section number, the packet's version, and the URL of the source you're comparing against. Reports are triaged daily and corrected fixes propagate to all packets generated thereafter.
Existing packets with stale citations can be re-generated from the document page — the re-run uses the current corpus. Older PDFs you have on file remain valid for the work date they were issued for.
