12 months of daily peak wind gusts from the nearest ASOS weather stations, with days above the damage threshold highlighted.
Daily Peak Gusts
Maximum wind gust recorded each day from ASOS stations within range
Damage Threshold
Days exceeding 58 mph (NOAA severe criteria) are flagged automatically
Station Context

Common uses
Data Sources & Methodology
Automated Surface Observing System stations operated by NWS, FAA, and DoD. Over 900 stations across the US reporting hourly observations including peak wind gusts. Data sourced from Iowa Environmental Mesonet archives.
ECMWF global atmospheric reanalysis providing gridded wind data at 0.25° resolution. Used as a gap-fill source when no ASOS station is within range, and for cross-validation of station observations.
58 mph (50 knots) is the NOAA/NWS criteria for “severe” thunderstorm wind. Days at or above this threshold are flagged. This is the standard used for severe weather verification and storm event classification.
